Government/Political Science Major

A government major analyzes the structure of government (executive, legislative, and judicial branches), how government works, public policy making and enforcement, and how the government makes decisions. Government and political science majors are commonly used interchangeably; however political science is the broader academic field, while government focuses on actual structures and processes (analyzising documents including the U.S. Constitution) with practical application. Political science covers similar topics but also dives into theory, comparative systems, and international relations. Both majors commonly go into careers related to journalism, non-profits, international organizations, and many further their education by enrolling in law school.
